Tom Nguyen is a seasoned legal professional with over 16 years of experience in both the private and public sectors. He was admitted to the Supreme Court of South Australia in November 2006 and specialises in Administrative, Migration, Criminal, and Civil law. Thuan handles complex matters, including visa applications, merit reviews, criminal defence, wills and estates, intellectual property, and civil litigation.
Previously, Tom dedicated over 15 years to the Legal Services Commission of South Australia (LSC) as a Solicitor and Acting Team Leader in the Civil Law Division. In this role, he managed the SACAT legal representation scheme, mentored junior staff, and represented clients in tribunals such as the Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) and the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (SACAT). His work focused on legal representation in merits reviews of decisions from the Department of Home Affairs, NDIS reviews, SACAT reviews, and advocating for vulnerable clients from diverse backgrounds.
Tom’s expertise extends to preparing legal documents, conducting negotiations, and providing strategic legal advice. He has been instrumental in creating programs for refugees, such as the Afghan Evacuees Program and the Resolution of Status for legacy cases.
Tom is deeply committed to social justice and making legal services accessible to all members of the community, a passion that has driven his legal career. He is also a member of the South Australian Law Society and the Asian Australian Lawyers Association.
