Penelope Stevens has over 30 years’ experience in legal practice. She became an Accredited Specialist in Family Law in 2005.
Penelope’s experience includes working at the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency in Darwin, and at the Queensland Indigenous Family Violence Legal Service in Brisbane. She also spent two years as Registrar of the Family Court in Brisbane.
Penelope worked as a sole practitioner in Brisbane for seven years and has carried out numerous locum assignments in Queensland and Victoria. She was appointed to a panel of Independent Children’s Lawyers in Queensland and Victoria and represented children’s interests in family law matters over 14 years. In Queensland, she was appointed to a panel of Separate Representatives, which the equivalent of the Independent Children’s Lawyer in the state child protection system. She has also mentored numerous junior lawyers.
Penelope prides herself on providing advice that is clear, direct and practical. She seldom has a matter go to trial as she works to resolve cases at an early opportunity.
